Law GAT Result 2026: Pass, Fail or Stuck at 49? Check It Here

Law graduate checking Law GAT result on phone at night, black coat behind (73)
One number on a phone screen can decide when the black coat becomes yours. (74)

The paper is over, but the waiting has just begun. If you sat the HEC Law GAT on Sunday 18 October 2026, your phone is probably full of messages: “Law GAT result is out”, “check it here by roll number”, “send your CNIC and get your marks”. Most of these are wrong, and one of them could cost you your ETC password.

Your Law GAT result (natija) decides when you can start chamber training and move towards your licence to practise (wakalat ka license). It deserves better than rumours. This guide was checked against HEC’s own pages on 19 October 2026. It gives you the real result dates for every 2026 sitting, the safe way to check your Law GAT result, how to count your score from the official answer key, what a 49 really means, and your next move whether you pass or fall short.

Law GAT Result Date 2026: All Four Sittings in One Table

HEC holds the Law Graduate Assessment Test four times a year. Its 2026 ETC test calendar gives a target result date for each sitting. Here is where each one stands today.

SittingTest dateResult date in HEC calendarStatus on 19 October 2026
1st5 April 202623 April 2026Result declared

Look closely at the August row. The calendar said 28 August, but the result was reported on 4 September, about a week later. So treat 6 November as the earliest likely date for the October Law GAT result, not a promise. A delay of a few days is normal. It does not mean anything is wrong with your paper.

Law GAT Result 9 August 2026: Still Need Yours?

If you sat the 9 August paper, your Law GAT result is already on the portal. Log in, open that application and download your card. HEC has also kept the answer keys for the 9 August 2026 paper online in five booklet colours: blue, green, pink, white and yellow.

Can You Check Law GAT Result by Roll Number? The Trap

This is the most searched question, and the most misunderstood. We could not find any HEC page that shows a result against a roll number alone. HEC’s route is your own ETC account, which you open with your CNIC and password.

Your roll number still matters. It is printed on your roll number slip, and you will need it if you ever raise a complaint. But it is not a login, and nobody else needs it to “check” your marks for you.

That gap is exactly what fake “Law GAT result by CNIC” and “result by roll number” pages use. Some ask for your CNIC, password or OTP. Others are old pages from earlier years, still showing three attempts or a 2025 result date. Never type your ETC password anywhere except etc.hec.gov.pk.

Is the Law GAT Result on the NTS Website?

No. The National Testing Service once ran this test, and Rule 108-C of the Bar Council Rules still names it, so many graduates search nts.org.pk. Today HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC) conducts the Law GAT exam, and the NTS results page does not list it. If a page sends you to NTS for your marks, it is out of date.

How to Check Law GAT Result Online in 5 Steps

  1. Type the address yourself. Open your browser and go to the ETC portal. Do not use a link forwarded in a group.
  2. Log in to your own profile. Use the CNIC and password you used when you registered for the HEC Law GAT. HEC’s FAQs say the CNIC on a profile cannot be changed once it is created, so use the same one.
  3. Open the right application. On your dashboard, find the Law-GAT application for your sitting: 18 October 2026 or 9 August 2026.
  4. Open the result. Once HEC announces it, that application shows a result option, usually labelled “View Result”.
  5. Check, then save. Match the personal details with your CNIC, check the test date and your marks, then download the PDF and print two copies.
Five steps to check Law GAT result online on the HEC ETC portal safely

If you have checked a LAT result before, the screen will look familiar. Our LAT result guide walks through the same ETC dashboard. On result day the portal can be slow, because thousands of graduates log in within the same few hours. Early morning or late night usually works better.

Can’t Log In or the Result Is Not Showing?

First, make sure HEC has actually announced the result for your sitting on its announcements page. If it is out and your account still shows nothing, or you have forgotten your password, raise a complaint on HEC Online Help with your CNIC, roll number and test date.

HEC’s FAQs also list an ETC helpline, 051-90408184, for urgent help. Keep the complaint ticket number safe. It is your proof that you raised the problem in time.

Law GAT Answer Key: Count Your Score Before the Result

The answer key is your early warning. For recent sittings, HEC published the Law GAT answer key before the result, as five PDFs: one for each booklet colour. On 19 October 2026, the keys for the 18 October paper were not yet on HEC’s pages, so keep an eye on the announcements page.

Here is how to turn the key into an honest estimate:

  1. Remember your booklet colour. It was printed on the question booklet you got in the hall: blue, green, pink, white or yellow. Each colour has the same questions in a different order.
  2. Open the key for that colour only. Each key lists Question 1 to Question 100 with the correct option, A, B, C or D.
  3. Count only the answers you are sure of. Write down what you marked, compare it with the key, and count the matches.
  4. Read the number calmly. Your memory of 100 answers is never perfect, so treat your count as a range, not a final score.
Your estimateWhat it likely meansWhat to do now

Law GAT answer key score check by booklet colour with pass zones at 50 marks

HEC’s announcements set the pass mark at 50 out of 100, and the ones we checked do not mention negative marking. Still, follow the instructions printed on your own booklet. Only the score on your ETC card counts.

One warning: a wrong colour gives a wrong score. A candidate with a pink booklet who checks against the blue key can “fail” at home and pass on the portal, or the other way round.

Law GAT Result 2026 PDF Download: Your Result Card

Your result card is the paper the Bar Council will ask for, so treat it like your degree. Under Rule 108-B of the Bar Council Rules, your enrolment application must carry the assessment test result card. Our HEC Law GAT test guide lists the other enrolment documents.

  • Download it the day it appears. Save the PDF in your email and on your phone, not just in the downloads folder.
  • Print two copies. Keep one with your degree and one with your chamber training papers.
  • Check every detail. If your name or CNIC is wrong, complain on HEC Online Help at once, while the result is fresh.
  • Keep it private. Never post your card in WhatsApp groups or upload it to document-sharing sites. It carries your personal details.
  • Note the expiry. A passing score stays valid for two years, so your enrolment must reach the Bar Council within that window.

Searching for a “Law GAT result 2026 PDF” of all candidates? We found no such list on HEC’s pages. Each result is shown only in that candidate’s own account, so a site offering a full merit list for the Law GAT test deserves suspicion.

Got 49 Marks? What Rechecking Can and Cannot Do

One mark short is the cruellest Law GAT result of all. The natural reaction is to demand rechecking. Before you do, read what happened in a case very close to yours.

In 2021, a candidate scored 49 out of 100 in HEC’s Law Admission Test and complained to HEC. HEC replied that subject specialists had assessed the paper on standard rubrics and there was no chance of error. He then filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court. A bench of Chief Justice Ahmed Ali M. Shaikh and Justice Yousuf Ali Sayeed heard him on 25 November 2021 and dismissed the petition (CP No. D-6611 of 2021).

The reason matters more than the result. The court noted that he “could not pinpoint any material irregularity or discrepancy” (para 4). He also showed no breach of law or rules, no bad faith by HEC, and no fundamental right that had been violated. Low marks and disappointment alone were not enough.

That was a LAT case, but HEC also conducts the Law GAT, so the lesson is worth learning before you complain:

  • Find a specific error first. For example, a key answer that is clearly wrong under the statute, a booklet colour mix-up, or wrong personal details on your card.
  • Complain quickly and precisely. Use HEC Online Help and give your roll number, booklet colour, the question numbers and the reason. Keep the ticket number.
  • Speak to a lawyer before going to court. A petition needs a real irregularity or a breach of rules, not only a low score.
  • Prepare for December at the same time. A complaint does not pause the next registration deadline.

Passed the Law GAT? Your Next 4 Steps

Congratulations. Enjoy the moment, but do not frame the card yet. HEC itself says a pass is needed for enrolment but does not, on its own, give you the right to practise.

  1. Secure your card. Save the PDF and the printouts, as explained above.
  2. Start pupillage (chamber training). Rule 108-C requires six continuous months in the chamber of an advocate with at least ten years of practice. You and your senior must inform your Provincial Bar Council within one month of starting.
  3. Clear the Bar Council stage. Ask your Provincial Bar Council how it currently holds its written test and interview for new entrants.
  4. Apply for enrolment in time. File your application before your two-year score validity runs out.

More step-by-step guides for law graduates are collected in our Law GAT Test section.

Did Not Pass? Turn It Into a December Comeback

Roadmap after the Law GAT result: pupillage path if you pass, December retake if not

A Law GAT result below 50 hurts. But it is a setback, not a verdict on your career. You get seven attempts in total, and HEC’s calendar places the next sitting on Sunday 20 December 2026, with registration expected from about mid-November.

  • Count your attempts. Check how many of your seven you have used before you register again.
  • Rebuild your Law GAT preparation around the marks. Qanun-e-Shahadat (20), the Civil Procedure Code (20) and criminal law, PPC plus CrPC (20), carry 60 of the 100 marks.
  • Use the answer key as a diagnosis. Note which subjects your wrong answers came from, and start there.
  • Get your registration ready now. The October window was only two weeks long, so keep your CNIC, email and payment method ready.

Whether you call it the Law GAT, the LLB GAT test or the law graduate assessment test, this paper rewards people who know the bare text of the statutes. Read the sections themselves, not only summary notes.

5 Law GAT Result Mistakes That Cost Candidates Dearly

  1. Typing your password on a fake site. Any page other than etc.hec.gov.pk that asks for your ETC password is a risk.
  2. Checking the wrong booklet colour. Your estimate is only as good as the key you use.
  3. Trusting unofficial dates. Some pages show two different test or result dates for the same sitting. Follow HEC’s own calendar and announcements.
  4. Keeping only a screenshot. A screenshot is not your result card. Download the PDF.
  5. Starting chamber training too early. Under the proviso to Rule 108-C, you must pass the assessment test before you begin pupillage.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Law GAT Result

1. When will the 18 October 2026 Law GAT result come out?

HEC’s 2026 test calendar gives 6 November 2026 as the tentative result date for the third sitting. Treat it as the earliest likely date. In August, the result came about a week after the calendar date. Watch HEC’s ETC announcements page, and check your own account on the portal rather than relying on forwarded messages.

2. Can I check my Law GAT result by roll number or CNIC?

We found no HEC page that shows a result by roll number alone. You check your Law GAT result by logging in to your ETC account at etc.hec.gov.pk with the CNIC and password you registered with. Your roll number is useful for complaints, but it is not a login. Avoid any site that asks for your password.

3. Where can I find the Law GAT answer key?

HEC publishes the Law GAT answer key on its own website, as separate PDFs for the blue, green, pink, white and yellow booklets. For the 9 August 2026 paper, they are on HEC’s answer keys page. For the 18 October paper, check the ETC announcements page. Always use the key that matches your booklet colour.

4. What are the passing marks in the HEC Law GAT?

You need at least 50 marks out of 100 to pass the HEC Law GAT. The paper has 100 multiple-choice questions on the Constitution, jurisprudence, civil procedure, criminal law, evidence and professional ethics. A pass lets you move ahead with enrolment, but you still need pupillage and Bar Council approval before you can practise.

5. How do I download my Law GAT result card as a PDF?

Log in to etc.hec.gov.pk, open your Law-GAT application for the right sitting and choose the result option once HEC announces it. Download the card as a PDF, save it in your email and print two copies. You will need it with your enrolment application under Rule 108-B of the Bar Council Rules.

6. Can I get my Law GAT paper rechecked?

You can raise a complaint on HEC Online Help with your roll number, booklet colour and the exact questions you dispute. Be specific. In a 2021 LAT case, the Sindh High Court dismissed the petition of a candidate with 49 marks because he could not show any irregularity or breach of rules. Get legal advice before going to court.

7. How long is a Law GAT result valid?

A passing Law GAT score stays valid for two years. Use that time to complete your six months of chamber training and file your enrolment application with your Provincial Bar Council. If your validity is close to running out, contact your Bar Council and HEC early instead of assuming an extension.

8. I did not pass the Law GAT. When can I take it again?

HEC allows seven attempts in total. Its 2026 calendar places the next sitting on Sunday 20 December 2026, with registration expected from about mid-November. Registration windows are short, so keep your CNIC and documents ready, and build your preparation around evidence, civil procedure and criminal law.

Your Law GAT Result Is One Step, Not the Whole Road

Whatever number appears on your screen, remember what it is: one step on the way to the black coat. A pass opens the door to chamber training and enrolment. A near miss gives you a clear map of what to fix before December.

Until then, protect yourself. Check your Law GAT result only on etc.hec.gov.pk, score yourself only with HEC’s own answer key, and keep your password to yourself. Get those three things right, and the rest is hard work you already know how to do.
