Two PDFs, both called “LAT past papers”, both shared in the same WhatsApp group. Same question, two different answers. Which one do you trust four weeks before the 15 November 2026 test? Most students never ask, and some pay for it in marks. This guide explains what past papers of LAT really are, which ones you can rely on, and how to practise safely for the Law Admission Test, the entry test for LLB admission in Pakistan.
It also gives you something most past-paper pages cannot: two free, original LAT model papers in PDF, written by Qanooni Dastak on HEC’s official pattern, each with an answer key that explains every answer. All facts below were checked against HEC’s own pages on 19 October 2026.
One reminder before you start: registration for the 15 November LAT closes on Tuesday 20 October 2026. If you have not applied yet, our LAT online apply guide walks you through the HEC portal.

LAT Past Papers: The Short Answer
- HEC does not publish full past papers. Its official pages carry the content weightages, a sample personal statement and answer keys after each sitting, not the question booklets.
- Most LAT entry test past papers are recalled. Candidates rebuild questions from memory after the test, so wording, options and answers can be wrong, even in “solved” versions.
- Past LAT papers are still useful for learning the style and level of questions, if you check every answer yourself.
- The safest practice is a full paper on today’s HEC pattern: 75 MCQs in 100 minutes, then an essay and a personal statement in 40 minutes. You need 50 out of 100 to pass.
- Free downloads: Qanooni Dastak LAT Model Papers 1 and 2 (PDF), two original practice papers with full answer keys. The links are in the model paper section below.
Does HEC Publish LAT Past Papers?
No. HEC’s Education Testing Council (ETC) runs the LAT and publishes the documents students need to prepare, but not the full question papers. That is why a search for HEC LAT past papers PDF files ends on private websites, not on HEC. Whether you call them Law Admission Test past papers or LAT admission test past papers, the rule is the same. Here is what HEC’s official pages actually give you:
| What HEC publishes | Why it matters | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Content weightages | The official subject split and timing of the paper | HEC LAT content weightages (PDF) |
| Sample personal statement | Shows the kind of first-person writing HEC expects | HEC sample personal statement (PDF) |
| Answer keys after each sitting | Lets candidates of that sitting estimate their MCQ score | HEC ETC announcements page |
| Test calendar | Dates for registration, slips, test and result | HEC ETC test calendar |
Answer keys are listed by booklet colour and question number. Without the question booklet, a key alone cannot rebuild a paper. So when a website offers “HEC LAT past papers”, it is almost always offering a recalled version, not an HEC document.
Last LAT Test Paper: What HEC Released After 6 September
The most recent sitting before the November test was the LAT held on 6 September 2026, the fourth of the year on HEC’s test calendar, with its result due on 16 October 2026. As after every sitting, HEC’s announcements carry the colour-coded answer keys, not the question booklet.
So any “last LAT test paper” you find online is a recalled version, put together by candidates or academies after the test. It is still the closest guide to the current level, because it follows today’s pattern. Practise with it, check every General Knowledge answer, and distrust any file that claims to be the official booklet.
Official, Recalled or Fake: Know What You Are Holding
Before you open any LAT test past paper, decide which of these three it is. The answer changes how much you can trust it.
| Type | Where it comes from | Can you trust it? | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Official HEC material | HEC’s own website and the ETC portal | Yes, for pattern, dates and keys | Plan your preparation around it |
| Recalled past paper | Candidates’ memory after a sitting, compiled by sites or academies | Partly; options and answers may be wrong | Learn the style and level, check every answer |
| Fake “leaked” or “guess” paper | Social media sellers and WhatsApp groups | No | Ignore it and report it |

A good model paper, like the free ones in this guide, is a fourth kind: original practice written on the official pattern. It is not a past paper, and it should never be presented as one. Its value is that every question and answer has been checked.
LAT Past Papers PDF Download: Where to Look Safely
Most students begin with a search for a LAT test past papers PDF free download. That is fine, as long as you know what you are downloading and who made it. Safe places to start:
- HEC’s own pages for the content weightages, the sample personal statement, the test calendar and answer keys, all linked in the table above.
- Free model papers on the official pattern, such as the two Qanooni Dastak papers in this guide, which come with answers and explanations.
- Recalled papers from a named source that gives the sitting date and explains its answers instead of printing bare letters.
Close any page that asks for payment for a “leaked” paper, your CNIC, your phone number or an app install before the download starts. A genuine practice PDF needs none of these.
LAT Past Papers Book PDF and Dogar Guides
Many students also search for a LAT past papers book PDF, or for a free download of the Dogar LAT book. Guide books from private publishers are copyrighted and sold in bookshops. Free PDF copies online are usually pirated, often incomplete, and sometimes carry malware. If a book helps you, buy the printed copy or borrow it from a library. For free practice, use material whose authors allow sharing, like our model papers.
Solved LAT Past Papers: Can You Trust the Answers?
A solved LAT past papers PDF download is the most popular kind of file, because a ready answer key saves time. The catch is that a recalled question is only as good as the memory behind it. If one option was remembered wrongly, the printed answer can be wrong too, and a confident tick mark makes the mistake harder to spot.
Use LAT solved past papers in three steps. First, attempt each question without looking at the answer. Second, compare your answer with the key. Third, wherever the two disagree, check the fact in a textbook or an official source before you accept either one. LAT test solved past papers with explained answers are far easier to check than ones with bare letters.
5 Hidden Traps in LAT Past Papers PDFs
- Wrong answers in “solved” files. A wrong key looks just as confident as a right one. Check every answer you were unsure of.
- An old pattern. Some older files do not match today’s paper. The current HEC pattern is 75 MCQs across six subjects, then one essay and one personal statement. If a PDF looks different, treat it with care.
- Outdated facts. Current affairs change. A question about an office-holder or a recent event may have had a different answer when the paper was recalled. Re-check every time-sensitive fact.
- Leaked-paper and “guaranteed” offers. No genuine LAT paper is sold before the test. Anyone asking for money, your CNIC or an app install in exchange for a “leaked” paper is a scammer, and dealing with them can put your own test at risk.
- Memorised essays and statements. Many PDFs include ready-made personal statements. Examiners read the same lines again and again. A copied template wastes the 10 marks a real story can earn.

How to Check Any LAT Test Past Paper in 6 Steps
Use this checklist before you spend an hour on any file:
- Source: Who made it, and when? A file with no name, date or sitting is a warning sign.
- Pattern: Does it have 75 MCQs in six subjects (English 20, General Knowledge 20, Pakistan Studies 10, Islamiat 10, Urdu 10, Mathematics 5), plus an essay and a personal statement?
- Answers: Are answers explained, or just letters? Explained answers are easier to verify.
- Facts: Re-check any date, name or current-affairs answer before you memorise it.
- Cost and data: Did anyone ask for payment, your CNIC or a phone number? Close it.
- Match with HEC: Compare the subject split with HEC’s content weightages linked above. If they disagree, HEC wins.

Old LAT Past Papers: Last 5 Years and Year-Wise Files
Searches like “LAT past papers last 5 years PDF” are among the most common. HEC has run the LAT since the Supreme Court’s 2018 direction to hold an admission test for LLB programmes, so several years of recalled material exist online. LAT old papers can show you how questions are framed, as long as you use them with two filters.
First, check that the paper matches today’s pattern of 75 MCQs plus essay and statement. Second, re-check every General Knowledge answer, because facts that were right then may not be right now.
LAT Past Papers 2020, 2021 and 2022
Year-wise files, such as LAT past papers 2021 and 2022, a LAT past paper 2020 PDF, or a file labelled “LAT past paper 30 January 2022”, are recalled versions like any other. The same goes for any LAT test past paper 2022 or past paper of LAT test 2021 that you find in a group chat. Use these files for question style, not as an answer bank, and give the most weight to the newest ones.
Note: Qanooni Dastak does not upload these year-wise files, because their answers cannot be checked against an official paper. Our two model papers are original practice papers, not copies of the 2020, 2021 or 2022 sittings.
Is There a Set of All LAT Past Papers?
No complete official set exists, because HEC has never released its booklets. A file that promises “LAT all past papers” or “LAT test all past papers” is a compilation of recalled questions, often with the same question repeated from different sittings. Do not chase every year: one well-checked recent paper plus two full model papers is worth more than a folder of unverified PDFs.
Two LAT Past Papers, Two Answers: What to Do Now
It happens often: the same question appears in two files with two different answers. Do not simply pick the file that looks more professional. First, read the question again and work it out yourself. Second, check the fact in a textbook or an official website. Third, if you still cannot confirm it, mark it as doubtful in your mistake tracker and move on.
Twenty minutes spent arguing over one disputed answer is time you could spend on twenty new questions. And remember: for any real sitting, only HEC’s own answer key counts.
Free LAT Past Papers Alternative: Two Qanooni Dastak Model Papers
Because HEC does not publish its question papers, we wrote two complete practice papers from scratch. Every question is original and the two papers do not repeat each other, so you get 150 checked MCQs, free to download, print and share for personal study.
Download Qanooni Dastak LAT Model Paper 1 (PDF, 17 pages)
Download Qanooni Dastak LAT Model Paper 2 (PDF, 17 pages)
Both are clearly labelled as practice papers, not HEC papers. If you were searching for LAT preparation MCQs with answers in PDF form, these papers are built for exactly that: every MCQ has the correct option and a one-line explanation. Paper 1’s essay topics cover cyber crime, online fraud and artificial intelligence; Paper 2 moves to access to justice, fake news and Pakistan’s water crisis.
What Is Inside Each Free PDF
| Part | What you get |
|---|---|
| Part I | 75 original MCQs on the HEC split: English 20, General Knowledge 20, Pakistan Studies 10, Islamiat 10, Urdu 10, Mathematics 5 |
| Part II | Three essay topics (choose one) and one personal statement prompt, with lined writing space |
| Answer sheet | A printable OMR-style sheet so you can fill circles as you would in the hall |
| Answer key | The correct option for all 75 MCQs, each with a one-line explanation |
| Marking guide | A self-check guide for the essay (15) and personal statement (10) |
| Score bands | What to do next if you score below 50, 50 to 59, or 60 and above |
| Mistake tracker | A page to record every wrong answer for weekly revision |

How to Sit Each Model Paper Like the Real LAT
Print the paper, put your phone in another room and set a timer for 100 minutes for Part I. Fill the OMR-style sheet, not the question pages. Then give yourself 40 minutes for the essay and personal statement. Open the answer key only after both parts are finished, and copy every wrong answer into the mistake tracker. Sit Paper 1 first and keep Paper 2 for a timed mock a week or two later, so you can see whether your score has moved.
What LAT Past Papers Teach About Each Subject
Recalled LAT past papers are most useful when you study the type of question, not the exact question. HEC has never said that questions repeat, so do not trust anyone who promises a fixed share of repeats. Here is the pattern of question types, matched to HEC’s official subject list:
| Subject | Marks | Question types to practise |
|---|---|---|
| English | 20 | Synonyms, antonyms, prepositions, spelling and sentence correction |
| General Knowledge | 20 | World geography, international organisations, everyday science, current affairs |
| Pakistan Studies | 10 | Key dates, movements, leaders, the Constitution and geography |
| Islamiat | 10 | Basic beliefs, the Quran, the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), the Caliphs |
| Urdu | 10 | Vocabulary, opposites and common idioms (muhavaray) |
| Mathematics | 5 | Percentages, ratios, averages, simple interest and simple equations, without a calculator |
For a full study routine built on these marks, read our LAT test preparation guide, which includes a four-week plan to 15 November.
LAT Past Papers Essay and Personal Statement Topics
Part II carries 25 marks: one essay out of three topics (15 marks) and one personal statement (10 marks), each in English or Urdu. HEC’s notices set a 200-word limit for each. Essay topics in recalled papers usually come from the same broad areas: technology, social issues, education, and law and society.
Practise with topics like these, all written for this guide:
- Cyber crime in Pakistan: is the law keeping pace with technology?
- Online fraud: how can ordinary citizens protect themselves?
- Artificial intelligence: a blessing or a threat for young Pakistanis?
- Should social media use be limited for students?
- Is the right to education reaching every child in Pakistan?
- Climate change: what can one city do?
The personal statement usually asks about you: why you want to study law, or a moment that shaped your sense of fairness. HEC’s sample statement shows a personal story, not slogans. Write from your own life, and keep a few real stories ready to adapt.
How to Practise With LAT Past Papers in 4 Weeks
With the test on 15 November 2026, here is a simple way to fit past-paper practice into the time left:
| Week | Dates | Practice task |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 19–25 Oct | Sit Model Paper 1 untimed to find weak subjects |
| 2 | 26 Oct–1 Nov | Practise weak subjects with recalled papers, checking every answer |
| 3 | 2–8 Nov | Sit Model Paper 2 under full timing; download your roll number slip on 6 Nov |
| 4 | 9–15 Nov | Revise your mistake tracker and write one essay every other day |

Roll number slips are due on 6 November and the result for this sitting is tentatively due on 24 December 2026. Our LAT test date guide has the full HEC calendar, and the LAT result guide explains how to check your score on the ETC portal.
Frequently Asked Questions About LAT Past Papers
1. Are LAT past papers available on HEC’s website?
No. HEC’s website carries the LAT content weightages, a sample personal statement, the test calendar and answer keys after each sitting. It does not publish full question papers. Files sold or shared as “HEC LAT past papers” are almost always recalled by candidates from memory, so check them before you rely on them.
2. Where can I download LAT past papers PDF safely?
Download only from sites that name their source and do not ask for money or personal data. Remember that most files are recalled, not official. For a fully checked paper on the current pattern, download Qanooni Dastak’s free LAT Model Papers 1 and 2, each with an answer key and explanations for all 75 MCQs.
3. Are solved LAT past papers reliable?
Partly. The questions show the style and level of the test, but recalled options and answers can be wrong, and some current-affairs answers go out of date. Treat a solved paper as practice material, verify doubtful answers in a textbook or an official source, and never memorise an answer you have not checked.
4. Where can I find the last LAT test paper?
HEC does not publish it. After the 6 September 2026 sitting, HEC released the colour-coded answer keys and the result, not the question booklet. Any past paper of LAT test from that sitting online is a recalled version. Use it for practice, but check its answers before you trust them.
5. Do LAT questions repeat from past papers?
HEC has never said that questions repeat. Question types do stay similar because the subject split is fixed, so practising synonyms, prepositions, key dates and basic maths helps. Be careful with anyone who claims a fixed percentage of questions repeats every time; prepare the whole syllabus instead.
6. What essay topics come in LAT past papers?
Recalled papers suggest broad themes such as technology, social issues, education, and law and society. HEC gives three topics and you write on one, in English or Urdu, within 200 words. Practise a clear structure rather than memorising full essays, because the exact topic is never known in advance.
7. Are LAT past papers from the last 5 years still useful?
They help you learn how questions are framed, but use them with care. Check that each paper matches today’s pattern of 75 MCQs plus essay and statement, and re-check every General Knowledge answer for changes since that sitting. One well-checked recent paper is more useful than many unverified files.
8. Is an LLB LAT test past paper the same as a Law-GAT paper?
No. The LAT is the entry test for admission to LLB programmes. The Law-GAT is a separate HEC test for law graduates, with its own pattern and syllabus, so its papers will not prepare you for the LAT. If you are a graduate, read our HEC Law-GAT guide instead.
Practise Smart, Not Just More
LAT past papers are a tool, not a shortcut. HEC does not publish them, many online versions carry wrong answers, and some “leaked” papers are simply scams. Use past LAT test papers to learn the style, check every answer, and rehearse the full test with a paper you can trust.
Download the free Qanooni Dastak LAT Model Papers, sit Paper 1 under real timing this week, keep Paper 2 for your final mock, and start your mistake tracker today. All our LAT guides are in the Law Admission Test LAT section.
